Nathan Sawaya is a Lego artist who creates playful and highly tactile sculptures out of the classic children’s toy. In this artist catalog, which encompasses and displays a variety of his work, I wanted to capture the feel of his aesthetic in a bold, geometric, and hands-on way. To accomplish this, I used the four primary Lego colors, created my own Lego-based patterns, and hand cut cutouts as headings. Additionally, I employed an accordion fold binding which allows the viewer to fully experience the catalog and Sawaya’s work through touching and holding the piece. To finish off the book, I placed the book inside a giant hand-crafted Lego box, so that the outer wrapping is abstract, yet appealing to the viewer.
