Temple of Cultural Heritage   →

All objects are beings; may artifacts speak for their time.

This exhibition takes on the form of a fuchsia temple and invites visitors to enter the temple to learn about its artifacts. Inspired by the worship practice in Taiwan, the space is designed according to temple layouts, except the subjects of attention are the artifacts instead. One can pick up a brochure in the shape of an amulet, and wear it on the wrist with a red bracelet; with the addition of a pair of gloves, visitors are equipped to try out printing in later sections.

An artifact carries both tangible and intangible cultural significance. The fuchsia color scheme derives from temple activities, and its fun contemporary style is complimented by silk screen printing. A specialist team was invited to hand-paint murals on site for two weeks, recreating temple beam paintings. This visual storytelling of artifacts can be seen as visitors enter the exhibition, as
they would when visiting a temple.

With the insertion of a token into the offering box, visitors may select a video in which master artisans from the National Living Treasure register speak about the craftsmanship of temple-related arts. At the end of the exhibition, visitors are invited to try poe divination to receive a fortune reading featuring temple artifacts from around Taiwan. Exhibition text from each section can be replicated through hands-on silk screen printing, and can be collected in the amulet bag.

This exhibition constructs a comprehensive worship experience with participative and collective memory familiar to the target audience. The Temple of Cultural Heritage is an exhibition that experiments with the juxtaposition of traditional and contemporary interpretations.
