We were challenged to study the material properties of shape retaining plactic and push past its usual uses. Then design a succesful product that emphasized its core strengths as a material.
The qualities that make shape retaining plastic appealing are:
-it retains its shape after bent.
-share similar structural strengths as metal.
-how lightweight it is compared to other materials that share
similar tensil strength as it.
A simple joint system was designed following a few design principles:
Ability to ship flat + Ease of assembly + Hand assembly
Each joint is pressure fitted into each slot and bends into place with ease. Reducing the amount of pieces needed to build the stool and making it easier to both manufacture and recycle.
