Ekaterinburg was supposed to host the 2023 World University Games — an international sports event among students. Ekaterinburg Design Code team designed a concept of an art object which was being planned to install at the entrance to the Universiade village on Koltsovskiy highway.
Universiade is an event that brings together a lot of people of different origin, gender, nationality, with different views and skills.
Our art object — athletes standing in a circle and holding each other’s hands — symbolises this unity of people in the heat of the competition.
Its white colour and form refer us to the statues of athletes that used to surround the city pond in the centre of Ekaterinburg. At the same time, hexagonal grid gives our art object a modern, up-to-date look.
The scale of the project makes it a point of attraction for all people travelling to or living in the city even after the Universiade.
