In the United Kingdom andmany other western countries Muslims have a very bad reputation. They areassociated with terrorism, fundamentalism, Jihad, suicide bombers, Al Qaeda,stonings, oppression of women and the Hijab. For this body of work I have beenphotographing Muslim people in Plymouth and the South West of England. It is myintention to show another aspect of Muslim life, one different from that whichis frequently spread by prejudiced media and right wing political parties. Withthese photographs I hope to encourage the forming of an independent opinionabout people and their faith – without adopting generalisations and negativestereotypes.
