LAO PEOPLE'S DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC
/ Geographical Indication /
The Laos geographical indication seal was created to act as quality certification and protection. It is accredited to products that follow traditional methods of production with very precise characteristics, due to their origin, but also prevents similar products of profiting from the region’s reputation. With the help of French NGO Terre Nouricière, a thorough process of research and experimentation was conducted with the local population, among government officials, producers and also tourists to observe and determine the best way to represent the country and better identify a local product. The basis for the project became the Buddhist stupa Pha That Luang because of what it means to the country. It is undoubtedly the most important national monument in Laos, a symbol of the country’s sovereignty, and widely recognised.
