This is a specific topic of my work. It is the conflict between a child's dreams and the family's expectations. All the factors in the painting have symbolic meaning. The red string represents the family blood. The deer represent s responsibility and burden. The pattern and the tree represents freedom and the galaxy in the back ground represents the loneliness of the kid.

In past times when people were really poor they papered their walls with newspapers. Every family had a family photo wall. People like to use gold frames to represent wealth and happiness, black frames to honor the one who is no longer with them. Family is one of the most important concepts in Chinese culture, kids are raised to obey their parents, and to stay with their families. Due to the one child policy most of my generation are only children, so the whole family is spoiling the one kid. The family doesn’t want the child to go out and know the world, they just want him to inherit the family business and marry the “right girl ”. They totally ignore what the kid really wants. They don’t take his word seriously. There are two parts in his brain. One is the man he want to become and the other is the man his family expect him to be. He struggles and is confused . He doesn’t know where to go or what to do.

This is like a story line. In this I'm talking about Chinese tradition and how the one child policy has influenced the new generation. Since there is only one kid, the parents pour all their hopes and expectations into the only child. Traditionally Chinese families don't move a lot, they like to stay in one place for generations. Some are in small cities or even villages . But the new generation love large cities, they always want to go and accomplish their dreams there. So there is conflict. The kids can't take control of their own dreams because they are afraid of letting their parents down. My work is devised in two sections.
