The Queen Victoria Building

This is the Queen Victoria Building in Sydney, now affectionally known and the QVB, was built in 1898 and designed by 28 year old architect George McRae, replacing the original Sydney markets on the site. Built as a monument to the long reigning monarch, construction took place in dire times, whilst Sydney was in a severe recession.

It’s an icon in the city and a place where people gather to socialise and go shopping. I really enjoyed shooting this beautiful building which I never looked at with the eye of a photographer before. I went during a busy time, so it was a bit challenging taking the shots when there were no people around.
