Jordan Smith's profile

Industry feedback

Was the student personable, professional and proactive?
Very much so - Jordan was very mature and motivated. He’s enjoying his course and the attitude he brought to the work experience showed this. He was quick to respond, very professional in his attitude and proactive in that he offered solutions above and beyond the project tasks I had set him.

What was the quality of the student’s work?
Very good, surprisingly so. Once we’d got through the logo design stage, his execution of those designs, visualising them in context, was very quick and a very high standard. More like a 2-year-in designer than a student. Very impressive.

Was the level of the student’s communication skills appropriate to the role?
We’re led to believe the ‘youth of today’ aren’t engaged or able to be sociable outside of a smartphone screen. This is so untrue. Jordan was able to speak clearly and intelligently about the project, his knowledge and enthusiasm was impressive. I could see him fitting in with any agency.

Was the student able to organise their work appropriately? Did they use initiative?
Jordan was quick to respond with solutions to the tasks I set him. He was methodical and organised and delivered what I asked of him every time.

How much supervision did the student require?
Our work experience was ‘virtual’ - ie. home-based. We had perhaps 4-5 zoom calls to discuss work and provide feedback to his designs. No other supervision was required. Often designers can go off at a tangent and end up presenting something wildly off brief. Jordan stayed on track and provided back exactly what was required of him.

How employable is the student?
I’d say that Jordan’s impressive skills mean he’d be up and running in an agency in no time. Straight out of university this is important. He won’t just be making the tea, he’ll be in the thick of it from day 1.
