Together with S & B-N, through the combined crafts of animation and storytelling we tried to convey a meaningful message touching a very sensitive topic. The Association for Child Palliative Care (FFB) is Norway's first children's hospice located in Kristiansand. A special place that allows seriously ill children and their families to live a life through unimaginably difficult times.
Prior to diving into modelling and look development, it was important to establish a unique character stylization, something that would be simple yet expressive and would conveniently transition into 3D. The four main concept styles were identified that followed a list of predetermined criteria. In a collaborative setting, with strong support from S & B-N who granted us creative freedom and control over art direction process, we settled on one of the more stylized directions.
"The founder and general manager of FFB, Natasha Pedersen, has worked for 11 years with the struggling families. When Natasha's daughter was one year old, the doctors said she was living overtime. Against all odds, she lived for another 16 years. The children's hospice is named after Andrea."
The story revolves around the family in a variety of scenes, particular chronology and circumstances. The challenge here was to not only keep the characters consistent through time and space, but acknowledge each of their individual persona, character development needs and even attire - so, we dedicated a proper amount of time to researching clothing styles and environments that are pertinent to the Norwegian audience.

Although the characters seem relatively minimalistic, we are proud to say that within reasonable bounds of the project and a strict pipeline no tricky shortcuts were utilized. Complete rigs, interesting and relevant environments, intricate lighting setups and tedious detailing (surfacing, texturing, grooming a teddy bear, compositing) - all of which allowed us to arrive at unique results - sui generis!

Even FPS had been adjusted manually to achieve a stop-motion-ish feel and effect.
