Amazing Animals: Red-Eyed Tree Frog
For this project, I used a single reference photo of a red-eyed tree frog to produce four separate illustration with different specific aesthetics.
Reference Photo
Encyclopedia
I developed this illustration using only pencils to come to a result most realistic and accurate to the original photo. The intention behind the encyclopedia image is to communicate a detailed visual description of the red-eyed tree frog to the viewer.
Gestural Essence
This illustration is all about the 'true essence and energy' of the red-eyed tree frog. Using ink, I emphasized the legs, tongue, and eyes of the frog, as these aspects of the creature are the most recognizable and quintessential to its character and movement.
Logo
The logo image is one that I made to fully capture the frog in a simple manner. This logo could be made much smaller or larger, and it would still communicate the red-eyed tree frog in an identifiable, iconic way.
Transformation Storybook
The transformation drawing is one of silly creativity. In a brainstorming session, the question "What does a red-eyed tree frog act like?" was met with the answer: a tape measure. This image is meant to capture the frog's behavior by drawing a metaphor to a known but unrelated object.
