"There’s nothing more comforting than the contrast of the crisp crust and soft, pale interior of a loaf of freshly baked bread — unless it’s a bakery inspired by those textures."
Jesse Dorris for Interior Design magazine
CONCEPT
Muka & Fartuk is a cozy café and a shop that offers a wide choice of breads, pastries, cakes and puff pastries. The concept of the interior was inspired by the close-ups of the textures of artisan bread – mesmerizing lines along which the bread cracked, a crispy crust, a milky white colour of the flesh.
IN PROGRESS
The interior space of the café was divided into two zones with a wall that has arches with the form of bread loaves. At the entrance there is a space for a quick snack. A room with a cozy low-seating area, a round table for companies, a comfortable soft sofa. The walls are finished with silk textured plaster.
NOW
The pieces of furniture were created by the architects specifically for this project. Warm tones of plaster, smooth surfaces of furniture and rough walls, terrazzo – with all this play of textures, factures, colours and tactile sensations.
the built-in sofa pays tribute to the traditional Savoiardi cookies used in tiramisu, at the entrance, baguettes in a paper bag inspired the shape of the custom table’s base and a circular tabletop with embedded flowers.
the focus is on the baked goods: an arched wall, itself rounded like a bread loaf, offers eyeshot of ovens and proofers, with built-in transparent displays for desserts.
“It’s all about the memories associated with bread from childhood, the happiest stories,” says STUDIO SHOO founder Shushana. “Everybody has their own.”
