Opal Shopping Center – Signage & Wayfinding System

Opal Shopping Center
Signage and Wayfinding System, 2018

Occupying a 7200-square-meter land area, Opal Shopping Center stands tall with fourteen above-ground floors and seven underground levels. Boasting more than 850 units, it hosts a diverse array of esteemed domestic and international brands, hypermarkets, an exhilarating recreation center, a car showroom, food courts, coffee shops, and more. Given the expansive scale of these public spaces, disorientation among visitors is a common concern. To address this, a distinctive bilingual signage and Wayfinding System has been implemented, aiding individuals in locating their position, desired destinations, and the most efficient navigation routes.
"Given the large spaces, visitor confusion is a concern. Thus, unique bilingual signage and Wayfinding Systems aid in locating positions, desired destinations, and efficient routes."
"From the outset, I faced the challenge of working with an underdeveloped brand identity and inconsistent color standards. Keeping this in mind, the signage concept was crafted to expand based on the logo. Thus, the path was clear, using these colors for custom signage. By combining outlined figures of icons and consistently expanding upon them, a truly unique collection of pictograms was born. Another hurdle lay in creating bilingual wayfinding systems to navigate the Shopping Center. Diodrum was employed to ensure cohesion between the Farsi language and the overall identity. With the fourteen above-ground floors and seven underground levels in mind, I delved into comprehending the distinct functions of each floor, its usability, and where information was most crucial. To accommodate these needs, two main structures—a hanging system and a stand system—were employed for the placement of the signs."
