Human Centered Design & UX IRL: Walk On The Wild Side

Walk on the wild side through this verdant, lush private residence
in Madison, WI on picturesque Lake Mendota.

Originally a private arboretum, the family has preserved over 80% of the original trees. The landscape architects' laid the footprint for the house prior to building.
This is a beautiful example of humans interacting with their environment
through a multi-generation family home.

In summer 2021 I consulted on this epic project. The landscape architect has had this family as clients for 38 years. Summer 2021 was critical because the patron of the family passed away. The family members expressed their wishes clearly,
"I want the plants on steroids this summer!"

While their father and grandpa was no longer physically present for summer at the lake, the grown kids and grandchildren needed a beautiful environment to celebrate both his life and their mom's who preceded him. As philanthropists, entrepreneurs, conversationists both their spirits live on through this lush living environment.

Enjoy this walk on the wild side...
This was a complete exercise in Human Centered Design and User Experience Design. Working hand in hand with the landscape architect and maintenance crew, I brought my Design Thinking expertise to the project. In addition to a lifetime of horticultural experience. I dove in hands on!

These photos are used by permission of the family and the landscape architect, who happens to be my mom. I worked on this property in 2021, and I also worked on it every summer from 2000-2009. A poignant return to my human centered design roots.
