Exploring another year within one of America's most respected environmental non-profits.
I was thrilled to work with RFF on their annual report for a second time, this year working to create something impactful and beautiful against the challenge of a fairly short timeframe. To this end, the creative is grounded in the striking use of colour, with each spread of the report making use of a full colour background, on top of which content is carefully placed to produce an engaging aesthetic that draws readers in. Using colour in this way means that visual, impactful spreads can be created even in the absence of photography and illustration.
Solid, simple icons add points of interest throughout, helping to elevate the content with character and clarity. Some photography also features a lined half tone effect – a classical motif which adds a nice visual thread through the design while conveying a sense of authority and heritage. The report also makes use of the typeface GT Sectra Display, a lovely contemporary serif which offers interesting letter forms and commands a mature, engaging tone.
Overall this route is serious but vibrant – a sincere acknowledgement of RFF’s ground-breaking work, presented in an optimistic and engaging way.
