NICOLE SHEAVYN AWARD SCHOOL APPLICATION 2014

ANNOUNCEMENT! My submission was accepted! 2014 AWARD here I come! :D
1. Why are you applying for this course? (If your answer is in writing, please keep it to less than 50 words.  And try to avoid using the words ‘passion’ or ‘dream’).
2. In a short paragraph, tell us about a piece of advertising you like and why you like it. It could be a TV ad, a billboard, a PR/viral stunt or a print ad (If it’s a print or billboard ad please include a copy of the ad, or a still shot from the TV or viral).

Keeping it local and stepping right into Perth's city, I really loved the HeartKids ambient campaign by SHEDcsc. The artwork is so unique and beautifully art directed. It probably helps that I'm a total sucker for street art and illustration. Each piece contains a message about child heart disease and how you can help HeartKids and their families. A lot of thought has been taken to install the artworks around cracks and holes in the pavement along with drain grates to maximise the visual impact, which I think is such a neat feature to the overall campaign. I think it was a highly effective and inventive way to create awareness of such a great cause.
3. Find a bad print ad.  An ad so bad that you know you could’ve done it better.
Now, using pen and paper only – no computer layouts – create a better ad for the same product.
Include both the original ad and your improved version.
(Importantly, the ad you create must communicate the same thing as the original. For example, if the outtake of the original ad is ‘Brand X cars are fuel efficient’, th must also be the outtake of your new ad.)
BAD AD (ABOVE) Would you believe that I have actually seen this same ad in print in the newspaper....the fact he has popped his floating head on a billboard is even more hilarious!
4. Using pen and paper only – no computer layouts – create an ad for the following brief.

Product:          NetNanny.com
Goal:                Get parents to install it to restrict what their kid’s access online.
Proposition:    Protect your kids from the things they shouldn’t see.
5. Using black pen and paper only – no computer layouts – create an ad for the following brief.

Product:          McCafe
Goal:                Get people on the go to try Maccas’ coffee.
Proposition:    Quality, barista-made coffee…from a Drive Thru.
