Synopsis
Commissioned for BBC.
“As a foreign woman on the streets of Lahore, Pakistan”
&
“Foreigners’ impressions of sexuality in Lahore, Pakistan”
In the series of films on ‘sexuality in Pakistan’, these two films were commissioned to grasp the ‘Western’ point of view on the subject matter. The content of the film is given through a disconnection of visuals and audio. A relatively spontaneous conversation by young European men living and working in Lahore is interwoven with images shot on the roads of Lahore and around Minari Pakistan by two women filmmakers. The intention is to rest with the male domination of the discourse, while at the same time letting the viewer step into the public realm via a women’s position.
Both the films use the same visuals, but the audio is rather different, so that the meaning changes drastically.
“Foreigners’ impressions on sexuality in Lahore is the original version, whereas “As a foreign woman on the streets in Lahore is the film that was finally broadcast on the BBC in 2006.
