Shapes— of a home.
We are always looking through the world through the lens of our mind,
and what appears 'right' to us, might appear otherwise for another. This project
explores how our preconceived ideas influence our perception of the world
around us. By stripping objects out of their context, it is up to the viewer's
interpretation to figure out what it represents.
What might be floating shapes to others,
appears as tables and curtains to another;
but to me, it is a trip down memory lane
through my childhood home.
A series of hand made collages done by cutting out photographs of various parts
of my childhood home in Jakarta, Indonesia. Through these series, I aim to
highlight how context plays a key role in determining how the world appears
before our eyes. The ambiguity of the collage was purposefully designed to give a
chance for the viewers to rely on the library of images in their mind to make
sense of the scene presented in front of them.
