I do hope you like the Steampunk Rotating Earth Globe Widget. This Konfabulator/ yahoo widget provides a simple rotating globe that can rotate at two speeds. The animation comes from thirty six medium resolution images, played one after the other, frame by frame giving a simulation of the rotating earth. The rotating earth widget is shown overlaying the orrery widget in the image below.
Running the widget in a javascript engine frees it from only running within the browser, you will now be able to run on your Windows/Linux/Mac desktop as long as you have an engine installed.
You will, of course, need Yahoo widgets for this widget to run. Get Yahoo widgets here:

Showing the thing in larger format, it rotates! The buttons allow you to resize, slow or speed up the globe, the reszing bar will disappear if clicked upon. The globe shown here standalone without any desktop or other widgets being displayed.
