Don't judge a book by it's cover. Judge it by the endpapers. 

The authors hands were so battered by the physical process of committing her life to print that I just had to use an image of them in the design of the book. By having her bandaged hands on the inside cover, when you open the book she appears to offer up her story to the reader.
