North Star Fund is a social justice fund that supports grassroots organizing led by communities of color that are building power in New York City and the Hudson Valley. They organize people across race and class to give in support of these movements. North Star Fund has built powerful community that creates and sustains authentic relationships among people who care about justice and equity. Their annual community is their biggest celebration of the year—featuring a fantastic cross-section of hundreds of New Yorkers who care deeply about grassroots organizing and who are committed to making justice real.
During my time at AHOY Studios I created the concept for the North Star Fund Community Gala 2020 and came up with a colorful, bold and adaptive design that embraces North Star Fund’s characteristics. I designed the save the date, event invitation and animated digital banner, but sadly the event got cancelled due to the spread of Covid-19.
I wanted to put special emphasis on the movement aspect and therefore created a typographic animation by stretching the letters for digital assets. To implement the same feeling on the printed invitation I explored different folding techniques.
