POP! Paint Our Parks x SCAD SERVE
Surface Design
To add a POP of color to the Arthur Langford Jr. Park in Atlanta, Georgia, I teamed up with SCAD (The Savannah College of Art & Design), SCAD SERVE, The City of Atlanta, and the community neighbors for the "Paint Our Parks" initiative. My team helped revitalize 3 basketball courts in the park (one full court and two half courts) by working with a resurfacing team to help level the court and fix the cracks, which readied it for painting. Once the court had been updated and prepared, my team painted a fresh design on top.

I created a design that visually interprets the energy of basketball through the use of bold shapes and colors. Influenced by coach playbooks and game diagrams, the dashed lines, zigzags, and other painted shapes represent the movement of passing or dribbling, the action of shooting the ball, the position of defensive or offensive players, and other court moves. The bright color palette brings a shot of vibrant POP energy to the park!

This was an incredible opportunity to use art to bring a positive change to the neighborhood and for the residents who have used this court for more than 50 years!

A huge thank you to the SCAD alumni, students, faculty, staff, and all of the other volunteers who helped to work on this project. And a very special thank you to my mural assistant and fellow SCAD alumna, Drew Borders.
