Pictogram Project

The pictogram project was a chance for us to produce something really simple but be successful at the same time. I over think some work and make it too complicated and then everything gets interpretted in the wrong way. We had to create a set of 6 pictograms that was related to people, places or a profession.

I decided to take on the task of 'The Olympics' so my initial research was to look at the designers that have been linked with past Olympic games. I had to think of a new way of doing it though as they have been done a lot of times so I had to create a new, interactive and 'modern' style.
My sport choosing were quite hard as I didn't know what I would feel comfortable designing so I chose football as a good starting block and then I could work from the body and the style. I wanted to do some photography shots so I could have a base to work with for the body shape and then digitialise it on Adobe Illustator and change the proportion when needed.
The next step was to decide what other sports to do. I decided to look for sports that were already in The Olympics and then I could design around the sports. I thought about doing another movement sport such as Badminton or Tennis. I then got outside and took photographs that I could use for the designs. After taking the photographs I started to digitialise them and create them into pictograms.
I then started creating all of the others that had this style and these are the final 6 that I created. I decided to go with having no heads as you could put yourself if that place and that place and then act of that movement. Having no heads also changes the original style that has been reproduced over and over again as this is a different thing that I have tried to change the style in place.
