Geomville - The virtual designer toy project

Geomville, the NFT project for kidults

The concept of Geomville was developed in the autumn of 2021 with the intention to bring something really cute, unique and heartwarming to the NFT space. Collecting toys is a part of growing up. Toys remind us of our childhood and these experiences follow us along all our lives. This is a very personal project for many different reasons. I've been collecting toys and dolls my entire life, and I've never really grown out of it. I always wanted to create my own designer toy. Now that virtual photography is actually available for every designer in the Adobe Substance Suite, it was a smooth process to bring these characters to life, from 2D to 3D.

There is a wide range of possibilities for the future when it comes to these characters. I am actively looking into options of physical production. Looking forward to collaborating with other artists in the future to create their version of Kai, Jax, and Bo.

About the Design

I wanted to create something that makes people feel cosy, nostalgic, but very much 21st century at the same time. I developed a color palette of 6 colors that I used in the first collection, and saved these to my CC Libraries so I could access them in every app I used such as Illustrator, Photoshop and Stager.

I just love minimalism and visually simple things. Mixing this, and my obsession with pretty fabrics, the first characters of Geomville were created from geometric shapes and fun fabric patterns with the possibility of expanding their little plastic family in the future. The Geoms were born in Adobe Illustrator, where I extruded the shapes and exported them as obj files. ( See screenshots below) After this I imported and assembled them in Substance 3D Stager for texturing and rendering. I used materials from Substance 3D Assets.

Playing with the idea if the Geoms would actually get produced. Box model from Adobe Stock, textured in Photoshop. Render from Stager.

Prints coming soon!
These little characters are perfect for further customization and collaborations
