Create vector images of a hand tool in 6 distinct graphic styles. Pair one with text to create a logo
The process for this project began with observational sketches of three tools–a seam ripper, hair brush, and safety pin–at different angles and in different graphic styles. This phase was exploratory. The final solution had to incorporate six images of a single tool in a set position so with the help of peer feedback I settled on the safety pin. After this, I did another round of sketching. This time around, the focus was exclusively on exploring styles. I chose six of these and recreated them in Adobe Illustrator.
As an expansion on this project, I had to choose one of the image marks and turn it into a logo by pairing it with text. Because the object I had was a safety pin, I decided to make my business a tailor shop and christened it "Bobbins & Basting." In recent years as the fast fashion industry has continued to grow there has been a number of people growing disillusioned with it. Thrift shopping has become trendy and many are looking to build cultivated wardrobes of ethically produced clothing. I believe that Bobbins & Basting would target this sustainably-minded younger generation. After all, the best way to condense your closet is to find clothing you love and one part of that finding something that fits.
To match this audience,I recolored the image mark to make it feel more funky and modern then paired it with a chunky, rounded text that I thought matched the bold style. After going through several compositions, I picked two of my favorites and applied one to a mockup.
