Encapsulating Graphics into Tactile Signage

Thermoforming Tactile Signage
Encapsulated Digital Graphics
With artwork and mold supplied by client, we used a Grimco Thermo-Compression Molding Press (18"x18" format) to create a homogeneous custom tactile sign panel with encapsulated graphics. By doing so, fabrication requires no adhesives, paint or chemical/water processing (effluent). Unused signs, scrap or off-cuts can be saved and reused/recycled in a future thermoforming project with a surface paint application, eliminating waste.

The sign panels below are composed of the following materials only:
(2) - 1/8" Acrylite FF extruded acrylic sheet for face and back
(1) - Digital Print on polypropylene media

Sign elements to be raised were routed into a mold of 1/16" Pionite laminate sheet (suede finish). The mold can be reused as many times as needed. A process of "Thermo-Fusion" was used in place of adhesive to encapsulate the image. Total press time to create the panel was 25 minutes.
Thermoformed custom signs are suitable for all interior or exterior environmental conditions.
