Developed in close collaboration with Mappin & Webb, an established and supportive supplier of the Royal Collection Trust (and a Royal Warrant Holder), the specification of the pocket watch covered every detail of its design. The size, case style, face format, and packaging were selected from the options suggested, and with the subsequent application of custom surface decoration in mind. The gold-plated finish was already known to be a big draw to the international tourists, who are the biggest market for these high price items.

The crown applied to the face and the centre of the casing-back was chosen to compliment the hands and the pendant. The coat of arms engraved in to the casing-front was re-drawn by hand (by me) to minimise detail and make it suitable for the size of the case, the material, and the engraving process.

The fierce face of the lion in the drawing above was changed before production to soften the look. Every unit was sold and the product was regarded as such a great success a 2nd version was commissioned the following year, this time in silver.
