Human Rights Ad, 11x17
The Ad shown above was created for educational purposes in my Advertising Design course. Before this project was even designed, the professor instructed us to create a Graphic Organizer about ourselves and learn things about ourselves that we did not previously know consciously. Based on the results of the activity, we were instructed to select a belief or cause that we identified with individually from the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. I chose goal number 16, which involves Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions. The reason I chose this goal in particular is because one of my dreams is to live in a world where everyone treats each other equally with love and compassion, no matter what they look like or where they come from.
In this Ad, my concept was to visually express that differences among us do not make us any less of a human. We were all born human and have the right to be treated with respect and equality. Therefore, I enhanced the word Human to contrast amongst the rest of the words that people put so much hate and emphasis on. I chose a softer blue font color for the focal word to be cohesive with all the other elements of the composition such as the logo. The soft blue also represents peace, tranquility, and gentleness that we seek in our world. The placement of the focal person was intentional to express what that person was fighting for and representation that they are a Human. In addition, I used a dark image to add contrast next to the other elements adjacent as well as expressing strength and to only see the silhouette of a person to enhance the idea that the color of the person's skin or gender are not what is important. Furthermore, the body copy was placed under the person in the center to guide the reader directly to the information.
