Korean War in the Media

Year 2013
Supervisor: Dovilė Džervutė

This is a research project I made for my studies. Korean War is a very interesting phenomenon for me. While a lot of people died and were wounded, the whole idea of this war and what actions two countries are taking, it looks nothing more like absurd: one country is sending food and medical care, another is spending millions for propaganda and "space missions". It's a perfect example of how the same country can declare war to and at the same time take aid packages from it's enemies.

What I wanted to show, was all the mass media reaction to this war. For this I had to collect more than 700 articles from The New York Times archives, between 1948 and 2013 and to categorize them by date. The result of this analysis was a statistical curve of the mass media attention to the Korean War (how many articles were made in the certain date).

The final printed result was 5 meters in width.

The last media attention to the recent (2013 March and April) conflicts between North and South Korea was the highest curve of them all.
