The Air We Breathe—Relief Printed Zine

The Air we Breathe and the Things we See—
A Relief Printed Zine

Project Brief/Background:
Metaphors are tools that are used to improve communication and add impact/help one explain a difficult concept by association to a familiar one. It can also be used as a problem thinking tool. The brief was to create metaphors that link that qualities of air and design. After selecting the chosen metaphor, a zine was to be illustrated on the same.

Project Goal:
From a toothbrush used in the morning to the car driven by us, the tangible benefits and comfort offered by each design around us touches our feelings and forms our attitudes. The usability, constant evolution and improvisation of products and services around us has brought pleasure, ease of living and helped form habits.
This influence was pictorially highlighted in my zine, titled “The Air we Breathe and the Things we See”. The spreads with depictions of casual daily chores, gazing at the sky and enjoying social interactions and play are all assisted or enabled by functional products and services or good structural designs. The illustrative approach was relief printing and the illustrations depict the use of design everywhere around us and the narrative explores the metaphorical connection between air and design in an inquisitive manner.

This was a Design Charette Project
