CIVITA DI BAGNOREGIO
ITALY
Founded two and half millennia ago by the Etruscans, this beautifully strange village is on the top of an eroded hill. Civita is also known as "the dying village" due to progressive erosion that can cause the village to disappear. During the Middle Ages, Civita was a thriving town. It was considered one of the most important cities in the region. However, as the centuries passed, the town's population declined, and by the 20th century, only a handful of residents remained. Currently, the village has more cat inhabitants than its handful of human residents!
Walking around this beautiful ancient village is surreal, charming in every corner. I wanted to enjoy every moment while I am there, knowing that this whole village might disappear in the future. Rick Steves, American travel writer quoted "Civita is a village suspended in time, an enchanted place that you will never forget." Enjoy!
Thank you for traveling with me!
This is part of my ongoing travel visual clips, where I share a glimpse of my travel visuals and thoughts. Each series features a paragraph about the history of the place, followed by a paragraph describing my thoughts while exploring that place. Accompanied by no more than fifteen carefully curated images that I took, each series is intended to give you the umami of travel. - Julius Yls
