Website for syndicated radio show

I”m a big jazz fan and was thrilled about this project. It began with web design and evolved into full brand identity and strategic direction. At the start of the project I was handed a logo and preliminary design ideas from a visual artist and was provided with several disparate texts that didn’t support one another. I reworked the texts and created a visual identity that would communicate a consistent story and message – that of a seasoned jazz musician with a deep, insider's knowledge of the genre and the artists.

The site has grown incrementally. The first version provided basic tools so that listeners could see a list of stations that carry the show, search the playlists, donate and contact us. Since then, we've expanded it to include interviews, podcast episodes, recommended albums and more. The show has a significant sponsorship potential, and I wrote copy and designed pages aimed at local and national sponsors.

The concepts of jazz and radio suggested light text on dark backgrounds, and this also worked well with the images that I was given at the start. The radio program plays mostly contemporary jazz but also recognizes the genre's roots, and the typeface Forma seemed a good reflection of this. Like the music on the show itself, Forma builds on a classic mid-century foundation and updates it for the 21st century. The face comes with very tight letter spacing, which needed a bit of loosening at smaller heading sizes so that it would read more easily in the light-on-dark environment.
The site was built from raw Bootstrap 5. All styling is lovingly hand-coded. Images edited in Affinity Photo.
