ROME
ITALY
Rome is the capital city of Italy and is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in Europe. It was founded in 753 BC and was originally a small agricultural village. Over time, Rome grew into a powerful city-state and became the center of the Roman Republic. It was later transformed into the Roman Empire and became the most powerful city in the Mediterranean world. In its heyday, Rome was the center of politics, culture, and religion. The city was renowned for its monumental architecture, including the Colosseum, the Pantheon, and the Roman Forum. Today, Rome is a vibrant city with a rich history, stunning architecture, and a bustling cultural scene. It is also home to the Vatican City, the headquarters of the Roman Catholic Church, and one of the most famous tourist destinations in the world.
Roaming the city of Rome gives me the impression of walking inside a tornado, where history collides with modern civilization. It is such a big city with intense "taste", so much to see and experience. When I walks inside the Coliseum, I can understand that this place was so vital in those days, even today is one of the main reasons people visited Rome! May be what Saint Venerable Bede said was true: "Rome will exist as long as the Coliseum does; when the Coliseum falls, so will Rome; when Rome falls, so will the world." Enjoy!
Thank you for traveling with me!
This is part of my ongoing travel visual clips, where I share a glimpse of my travel visuals and thoughts. Each series features a paragraph about the history of the place, followed by a paragraph describing my thoughts while exploring that place. Accompanied by no more than fifteen carefully curated images that I took, each series is intended to give you the umami of travel. - Julius Yls
