Martin Dupuis's profile

Eidon: Dry Season

---

For their 2014 brand book, surfwear brand Eidon sought to capture the unedited spontaneity of a travel diary. With the shoot's location and subject set as Nicaragua during the dry season, the project initially called for a small illustration job in which ink drawings would accompany travel and surf photography from the trip.

Once the project was underway, however, the job grew to encompass chronicling the trip through hand-written notes and video. Ultimately, both the notes and illustrations served to give the project the effect of an improvised and unpolished narrative. Additional work on the booklet's design and layout kept with this sense of authenticity.

Along with being given carte blanche in terms of the illustrations and final design layouts, the open and flexible way in which this project evolved allowed for a blending of personal artistic style with the client's vision.

A complement to surfwear label Eidon's 2014 brand booklet, this series of short films follows the campaign's Nicaragua surf trip, bringing a new medium into the campaign. Shot with a digital camera and some Super 8 film, the footage has a warm, homemade quality that's in keeping with the informal, improvised style of the campaign's brand book.

Though the videos served as a “making of,” this behind-the-scenes look at the campaign avoided a strictly linear narrative, instead presenting a fragmented and dreamlike view of Nicaragua trip as a series of happy accidents and intimate memories.
