Editorial illustrations - Day-care trilogy

For research Journalism platform FollowTheMoney, I made a series of three illustrations about day-care. It are in-dept critical articles about research, open market and free day-care. These articles can get a bit technical.

My job is to translate the subject to an appealing illustration banner.
Part 1 - DAY-CARE RESEARCH

In a recent news article The ministerey proudly states the quality of the Dutch daycare is among the best in the world. This article tells the story of how the ministerey cuts the budget of the research. That’s part of the reason the study has a very limited study group. Wich makes the whole study fall short.

For this editorial illustration I put the day care on the stage. Only thing is, the representative of the ministerey bought himself a cheaper ticket. That’s why he’s seated behind a pole, wich blocks most of the view.
PART 2 - OPEN MARKET

Alot had happened since day-care was privatised. Because of increasing demand, the market is bigger, the buy-outs and take-overs more frequent and the quality of the care provided to children is -you guessed it- questionable.

On the left we see a parent with her two children, approaching the market. There are alot of flashy promotional banners, and the salesmen are drawing their attention. On the back, you see a possible take-over or bussiness deal.
PART 3 - FREE DAY-CARE

Making day-care free for four days a week, seems to be the miracle cure for many of society’s problems. It would help chances for women on the workfloor and it would equalise the oppertunities for young children.
But if the quality isn’t there, it could actully harm children.

At first we see the spokesperson for ‘four-days-free-day-care’  A wonder cure for alot of society’s current problems. The crowd is thrilled by what she has to say. But if we read the crowd from left-t-right, we see scepsis growing, and in the end the possible bad effects on children.
