卢沟桥和宛平城是同时建起来的，宛平城当时还被叫做蝎子城。它张着两个大钳子，翘着一条长尾巴，专门吃小动物，路过的山羊、驴都被蝎子直甩尾巴吸干了血，喝的血越多，蝎子长得儿越大，慢慢地长成好几丈。过了一段时间，它已经不满足于吸动物血而开始专喝童男童女的血。
其中一家老两口的孙子被蝎子看中了，夜里梦见白胡子老道（鹤发童颜，身着一身道服，手里拿着拂尘。）老道得知孩童属鸡，便顺袖子里一掏，拿出一张黄纸并铺开，剪成一只大公鸡，随后在油灯上一熏，吹了一口气，顿时纸公鸡变成一只黑毛大公鸡。

东门外，一南一北，有两口枯井，正是蝎子的两只瞎眼睛；东北和尚庙有两座半截塔，偏南大枣园也有两座半截塔，这是蝎子的大钳子。西北外的卢沟桥，打东向西，崛起老长老长的一个桥身，正是蝎子的尾巴。
如今宛平城及周围已经和当初大不一样了，这些古迹也没有了踪影，只能靠我们的想象力来还原当初的情景。
