Book Cover Design.
This is a book cover that I designed for a book about serial killers. The title of the book
is Obssesion. In my initial research I found the original case file for Richard Ramirez (the night stalker), thus it included every detailed account of his murders and how his victims were killed and found. This I found to be super interesting, really dark and perfect for a creative direction. The book was out of Los Angeles, so what better killer to have on the cover than one that terrified all of Los Angeles for an entire summer. Rather than just putting a picture of Ramirez on the cover and the title of the book I wrote out by hand every detailed account of his murders from the case file in a way that an obssesed serial killer psychopath might write. Leaving it black and white to create more of an impact, except for the back where there is blood splatter. The spine and inner flaps of the cover are in a solid dark red, Pantone 4975 c. The paper for the cover is Neenah CLASSIC Linen Text Avalanche White 80T. It is a tad bit thiner than a normal cover might be, but the linen texture, matte finish and the thin weight of the paper gives the cover a more sophisticated feel when held, which is a nice contrast to the quite grotesque subject matter.
