Brief - For this brief I was required to design a book cover and sleeve for a chosen book. I chose Jurassic Park as I have read the book before and also a keen fan. Throughout the researching process, the dinosaur element was an obvious factor towards the storyline, but I wanted to step away from this concept, and think of something different as a cover.

Looking at the mosquito and amber that surronded the moquito in the book. Trying to develop something with this, which would later come into the final design.

Again details about designing something with the mosquito, but at this point not sure what.

finding the basic shape of the mosquito, and trying to develop it from here to something that could work. Also researching DNA which is extracted from the mosqiuito.

realising that something could be combined with the mosquito and the DNA strand.

Also looking at needles, which extract the mosquito's DNA.

Finally combining all elements to try and finalise a finished design.

trying to develop a shape that the mosquito would fit in as the needle shape.

Finally coming up with a design that I was happy to take on to screen, which eventually combines the mosquito, needle shape and DNA strand, 3 big elements of the book which create the Dinosaurs.

Outcome - After researching and developing my idea I came up with this concept. Rather than having a normal mosquito I designed it to the shape of a DNA strand, the idea of the mosquito beeing in this shape is so that we can see where the story begins. This would be the hard cover of the book, with the dust jacket, seen below over the design. 

 

The needles in the design resemble the extraction process that is told to us that happens in the story. Rather than having one needle showing the process, I used many, to show the mass production of the different species of Dinosaurs that are created within the story.

Outcome - This is the dust jacket cover. Through the hole designed on this jacket, would be the mosquito and amber sticking out through the cut out area. The shape of the design is to resemble the amber that the mosquito's are found in, but also a dinosaur egg which is created by the very thing that is within the shape.
