Movies

Nightcrawler Is really about a single guy trying to get paid but he is using great manipulation techniques . The main character poses the ability to learn a skill until it can become a weapon. Its character study that i really enjoy.
This scene is one of the best examples of a dialogue between 2 actors. It uses 3 cameras 1st to cover actor one and the 2nd
There are many good examples in this film of long shots of just "Lou" talking and having monologues this adds to his performance as it shows how much of an obsessive sociopath he can be. It starts to creep in this scene where we get an idea of who he is and how he will procede with his business.
It is a great film with amazing acting from Jake Gyllenhaal and cinematography from Robert Elswit. He uses a lot of isolation to show how distant in his own word "Lou" really is.The lighting is very little during the night and its used o only light part of "Lou" Face
All in all a great simple example of core techniques that help a lot with the story telling
Locke is a film that takes place all inside the car. And we get to experience what is happening and how his life unfolds during his drive which takes him to the end of his journey. It uses as many camera angles as it can for the same thing which keep it interesting. Locke also talks to he deceased father and the way that was made was unusual. He imagined his dad in the back seat so every time he would talk to him the camera will be behind the driver and filming the mirror which almost feels as if we will there in the car.
Very limited colour palette. It's because the whole film is filmed at night . It was interesting that it wasn't made to look like a one shot film which was good because for it to be one shot with not much going on it would have looked like a fancy podcast.
Joker. I dont even have to talk too much just because it such a big conversation about the perfect character study with the perfect team.
I will just share my favourite scenes and why they are my favourite

This scene is why Im so focused on getting a dancing scene because no matter which idea i shoot with or without actor the turning point will be the dance. because if people are just looking down at the ground and walking with narration over it it can become boring but if you turn it around with a dance suddenly the dynamic changes. The dance in the film was the full of the joker.
Since the idea had changed so do the inspirations as well. Im still very inspired by the above movies that i list i will have to give more relevant examples.

Artists

Guy Billout

I saw his work while scrolling trough Instagram and started to research him. Turns out i had an undiscovered passion for the surrealist artists.

His use of jokes in the art pieces is very clever and new to me. I also like ho i can feel emotions when looking at them
These below are the ones that will inspire some of my shots. They are the closes thing to what I was thinking in my head as well.
Spacious and vast with the feel of emptiness
Michael Sowa

There is one and only painting that influenced me 'Die Einladung'
The balance between emptiness and humans is truly unbelievable. It immediately provokes emotion in you and you feel a certain way about it. It has to be one of my favourite paintings
Tim Eitel
I saw his name on the brief and the reading list and it looked very familiar. After I saw his painting i fell in love because not only did i get inspired for my project I also found a new artist to add to my favourites

I really hope i manage to get and isolate a single person in the shots but since i'm going out on a location I haven’t been before i will try my best
Podcasts

I listened to "The Deakins" podcast where Joe Walker was a guest to speak about editing. It showed me new ways of editing. He was talking more about movie editing but it was still interesting to hear how back in the day he edited film and it wasn't digital. The relationship between the director , cinematographer and editor as well was cleared up. I learned that his right hand is the director trough editing. They stay together and make the decisions
Cinema meets Art

I didn’t come up with idea on my own to get inspired by the paintings because i saw clips around the internet of film scenes and what painting they were referencing. It is really fascinating to see that so many years after artist like cinematographers and directors keep on getting inspired.
This youtube compilation shows a lot of them. I have picked the best and the ones i like
Cinema meets art meets Dimitar
