Inspiration

He has been an inspiration many times for different reasons . This time it's because of his work with The North Face and its athletes. His "Hero" shots are really one of a kind. Since he is mostly shooting for sports companies and their brochures, look-books, catalogues, magazines he is very good at framing the shoots and no matter how busy. The text never takes any attention from the main image it even makes you analyse the image more and more.

Perfect examples of his work with type on a layout. Framing at its finest
Beautiful portraits of Athletes. Again his framing is impeccable some of the images even work in my layout .
I have also been looking at other style photographers suggested by Julian. That whole era of soviet photography is really interesting. There are lot of similarities in some of the photos I saw and some of mine in the way they were shot.

Pioneers of Soviet Photography by Gregory Shudakov Is the book that was suggested.

Boris Ignatovich really caught my attention
In my opinion these are just remarkable.
The car shot is really good because it makes you follow the cars from up to down you can see Saint Basil's Cathedral. This was shot in the amazing red square. I knew just from looking at the photo because the way its compositioned
The guy with his back to the camera is amazing as well.I cant really understand what its happening but thats what makes me want to know more.
The abstract shots are exactly what i like and the fact that they are done by such a professional in black and white really makes me want to go and shoot some myself.

I can also see why i liked Margaret Bourke-White photos in architecture . They had the same style i would not be surprised if she was inspired by Boris

He was also one of the first Photographers to take aerial shots. There is a whole galley of the old leningrad that shows those images. It is just breathtaking really. They we he framed the is simply amazing. "A New Neighbourhood " Is my favourite one just because I know buildings like and the repetitiveness of the patter is amazing
I cant and dont know where to even start on this one. It is such a powerful image that i really dont know what to say. That is a hero shot if i have ever seen one
Arkadij Sajchet

I couldn’t find a lot of his images online but the ones that i saw my god are they amazing. Everything that i would want a photo to have he has done it
The composition is really amazing i just cannot start to explain how impressed i am with every shot of his. I will only include a couple because I will be saying the same thing for the other photos
Ivan Shagin

I am not familiar with a lot of photojournalist but even if i were i think that there is a hard match for his photographs.
The framing in all of them is just simply beautiful and breathtaking.
In the middle on i never understood how photographers were able to achieve that effect with the light and fog.
The far right one made my jaw drop. It is just a masterpiece. That is a story telling masterclass

This however i will try out with my swimming model if I am able to get one
I do not usually shot this way but i might as well give it a shot. I always thought that the model should be straight in the frame and horizon as well, that was in my first year of course. Now even thought i understand (or have my understanding ) why its done I still was hesitant to try since it didn't fit my style. But with the brief and the layout this may be my "money shot".
To the right there are more shots from that photoshoot and one of a girl trowing a spear which if i was doing that sport would be the perfect inspiration for a pose and framing.
Aleksander Rodchenko

After looking at these soviet photographers the whole concept of the tilted frame is really not a bad idea it ads dramatic sense to the the look of the photo. His architecture shots are really amazing as well. I can see why Boris was inspired by him
Leni Riefenstahl

These are from when she got commissioned to shoot the Olympics . No i wish i chose spear trowing as one of the sports because it look amazing on  photos in motion. If the training grounds were open on time I would have probably changed the sports and did it. I dont think its realistic to try and get a spear on top of the hill to where the rings are.
Whilst researching these old soviet photographers i stumbled upon an old Russian   publication all about photography. I managed to find archives
I even managed to find a publication in which Ivan Shagin was published. It is all facinating to me because the events and people that were captured dont even look and feel real . It lookslike a movie.

These two screenshowts are my favourite . The one on the left with the cars and panoramic view of the concrete is really amazing. I am assuming those are military trucks. But they way that they are actered on the frame is really engaging. i am surprised this is exposed so well sinse it was probably sunset.
The ones on the right are also amazing. The violin shot is my favourite . I tried searching the phtographer but they didgn have many of hiw phots since he was mostly active in the 20s and 30s.
This is all i could find on Abram Shterenberg
