This was a university set brief to design a set of four stamps to celebrate the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
The stamps had to emphasise international friendship, a spirit of healthy competition and the inclusive initiatives of the modern game.
For my set I decided to look at the emotion of the tournament and how this is expressed among all those involved, from the players to the supporters back home. I focused in on facial expression, particularly the emotion conveyed by the eyes, and used abstract colours and close zooms to prevent my stamps from defining the actual person.
I also decided to use captions to highlight an alternative purpose of the emotion - the major poverty levels in the host nation. This draws emphasis on the idea that football can draw nations together, but that it could also act as a stepping stone for raising awareness of Brazil's poverty levels and encourage action to be taken by other nations in a stronger position to help those in need.
