This is a self portrait I created as practice using a Wacom Bamboo Pen and Touch to paint in Photoshop.
This is the third ever portrait I've painted digitally and I'm really pleased with the outcome.
Previous to purchasing a tablet, most of my realistic work was created by hand, through sketching or acrylic painting. These mediums are something I really enjoy working with and the effects that can be created with them I find can help to add a deeper sense of mood and tone to a piece.
This is something I wanted to maintain as I began to explore the world of digital painting. Although a hyper-realistic finish is achievable with patience and attention to detail, allowing many digital portraits to appear almost photographic in quality; I wanted to maintain some of the more traditional style qualities. This helps to add character to each artwork and also preserves the purpose of creating the's not a photograph, so it shouldnt be treated as one.
I'd like to merge the good qualities of both traditional painting techniques and digital artworking to create a style that is distinctive and that enhances the strength of impact on the viewer, overall creating a piece that is memorable and inspiring, both to the art world and ordinary people.
