Blessers Film Release

Creative Direction and Motion Design with B&B Digital.

The project was to create the visual identity for an upcoming South African comedy-drama about the blesser culture in South Africa. I was tasked of creating the visual identity and motion design that would show the uniqueness of this film by international standards. For the design, we focused on the variations of South African languages to be proud of the wide audience that would later see this film. The visuals also played off of the traditional Renaissance motif of flat halos behind characters heads and the use of doves of motifs of peace. This was because of the title – Blessers. The idea was to take what could be a cliched comedy film and give it a unique visual identity to inspire new markets into seeing this film.
The landing page showed the characters and the key visuals as the highlight as a means to push the users towards the trailer.
The digital marketing rollout was widespread. We marketed in 5 official South African languages targeted to specific cities where each language was most prominent. We used the tagline “Who’s your daddy?” in all 5 languages and continued this rollout on organic platforms.
We kept the creative fresh every month by replacing designs for the entire rollout. While this was quite a mission to achieve, it kept the campaign young and fresh for the entirety of the build up to the film’s release.
Each lead actor got a character pack which they used frequently on social media platforms to push their personal followings towards the trailer and the film’s site.
