A short 3-4 min animated science fiction film about a young girl becoming an aeronautical engineer. During a time when spacecrafts are readily available to the population, backyard aeronautical engineering is outlawed. A poor young girl helps her dad build a ship in their garage to achieve his dream of visiting the moon. The narrative shows a young girl learning about the concept of gravity.

The film is set in Joburg and referencing was done to the Telkom Tower and Ponte as well as other iconic Johannesburg landmarks. The Johannesburg suburban layout was also followed with closely situated houses with varying sized gardens. I chose Johannesburg because of the vast difference in demographics and household income is at the core of the story. With the moon as a metaphor for money, fame and happiness - everyone , from all different types of households - is trying their own way to achieve these dreams.
Each prop and rocket was designed to show age and compromise. How would an ordinary person attempt to get to space, and what means would they have to get there.
For all three establishing shots I experimented with lighting to show the passage of time from one scene to the next.
