OVERVIEW: With two drivers in the 2013 starting field vying for a record-tying fourth Indianapolis 500 victory, the concept for the Official Program cover was to join these two with the other two living 3-time winners and the only three 4-time winners of the race. Photo shoots were set up with the four 3-time winners in Indianapolis and the three 4-time winners in Houston. The final composite image, which consists of approximately 6-8 images from the two photo shoots, has current drivers Dario Franchitti and Helio Castroneves looking over at the men who accomplished what they hope to; four Indianapolis 500 victories. Cover design was an homage to the 1977 Indianapolis 500 Official Program cover; the year AJ Foyt became the race's first 4-time winner.

OVERVIEW: This composite digital illustration was built using Photoshop CS5.5’s 3D imaging capabilities. 3D car model positioning, materials, environment and lighting, and final renders were all produced within Photoshop. All background imagery is a combination of photography and digital painting effects within Photoshop. As a subtle tribute to the late Dan Wheldon, the artwork shows the 2008, ‘09 and ‘10 Indianapolis 500 winners in their 2012 car liveries being led through Turn 1 by the 2011 “500” winner Wheldon.
90th RUNNING INDIANAPOLIS 500
Official Artwork
Acrylic on Canvas - Greg Beall
OVERVIEW: In celebration of the race's 90th Running in 2006, artwork that showed the history, pagentry and spectacle of the Indianapolis 500 was in order. Inspired by the mural work of midwesterner, Thomas Hart Benton, we set out to create a work in the vein of early 20th-century Regionalism. A collabrative project, each element of the final piece was painted individually with acrylic on canvas. Each element was scanned then assembled in Photoshop. Finally, additional digital painting was added over the rough acrylic illustrations in Photoshop. All pieces were reproduced on a heavy canvas textured cover stock.
