Schiphol Automated Passport Control

For the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations and Schiphol Airport we designed the automated passport control systems. We worked on the industrial design, flow and user interface.

- work done at Fabrique [brands, design & interaction] -
The self-service passport control system we designed was created as a single product, not a combination of multiple elements. This way it looks simple and friendly. We limited the amount of interaction points and designed a very small screen with minimal instructions. It would give a single instruction and in the column you would get a line of light guiding your eye to the camera on top or the passport reader below.
The camera on top is shown on purpose. In many systems it is an integrated element, but people want to know what is going on in a system. By showing the camera and displaying it as a big eye people are attracted to it, which makes scanning easier.
The end version of the No-Q gates were developed by Accenture.
