My bachelor degree dissertation is an inspection of the status and role of visual communication through the study of one of the most ancient and powerful forms of communication: myth.
As journalist Marino Niola writes, myth is not an escape from reality, extraneous to our contemporary culture. On the contrary, as Roland Barthes suggests, several "myth industries" exist today: internet, cinema, television, advertising, fashion, art and design itself.

Myth is not just a fantastical narrative, it is a mean of social orientation and its role is still the one it had in ancient times: to supply identitary models and to create collective experiences. Visual communication has indeed a fundamental role in conveying "contemporary myths".
I drew a set of pictograms to accompany passages of the book. These visualize the 17 stages of mythologist Joseph Campbell's theory
of the Monomyth, according to which every hero story in the world could
be brougth back to the same common narrative structure.

So, the pictograms themselves and their different combinations can tell many different stories. Since then, more pictograms inspired by myths
have been added to the initial 17.
