DESIGN's a BANANA
Visual Essay, 2020
As a metaphor for design, DESIGN's a BANANA is a visual essay that discusses the sustainability and ethical issues of excessive food packaging through the collaborating voices of design provocateur Victor Papanek and the design duo from Norwegian award-winning design agency Olssøn Barbieri. A poem from the artist (myself) concludes his personal position in this design sustainability issue.
The visual essay aligns the multi-purpose banana plant to the possible futures of sustainable food packaging design. Printed on and packaged in materials made from the banana plant further enhances the importance of sustainable packaging design in this work.
