An Attempt At Illustrating The Ineffable While Walking to E163rd St in The Bronx
"An Attempt at Illustrating the Inevitable While Walking to East 163rd St in the Bronx”, functions as a stream of consciousness, with thoughts captured over the course of 4-6 months.

The images formed through the piece deal with autobiographical and introspective contemplations towards police brutality, cycles of oppression and repression within inner cities communities, the food desert, gentrification, religion in black communities, racism and more.

Through this piece I sought to reconcile with the effects of these events experienced firsthand and reach healing through contemplation and an intentional use of mindfulness through art. Branching from the study of the "Surrealist Manifesto" by Andre Breton, a technique within the texts referred to as "Psychic Automatism" and a study art/artist that stem from this work. This piece also serves as one of many explorations to finding what "surrealism" means to me and how techniques from the movement can be applied to art, health and the self in contemporary times.

Functioning as a translation of thought and the subconscious, this piece was made using cardboard and marker. Viewers interact with the piece through portions that open like a book, hidden words and images. (Ex: Can you find the word, "Inshallah?")
Some notes and contemplations had throughout the project!
