Bright, iridescent colors, seen in refracted light, surprise and delight. In this series of images, I experiment with the shape of the glass objects and the chromaticity of the lights and backgrounds. Passing through the prism, bright colors in bizarre and sometimes unpredictable combinations smoothly turn into gentle ones.
In optics, dispersion is the phenomenon in which the phase velocity of a wave depends on its frequency. One important and familiar consequence of dispersion is the change in the angle of refraction of different colors of light, as seen in the spectrum produced by a dispersive prism and in chromatic aberration of lenses.
